Moms Demand Action Events In Michigan This Month

HOUSE ADOPTS “PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN ACT ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8TH

Ten mass shooting happened throughout the country last weekend! This plague of gun violence has become the leading cause of death among American children, according to Senator Dick Durban, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN ACT BILLS THAT INCLUDED THESE PROVISIONS:

  • Raise the legal age to buy certain semi-automatic rifles;
  • Establish new federal offenses for gun trafficking and selling large capacity magazines;
  • Allow local units of government to compensate individuals who surrender their magazines through a buy-back program;
  • Create a tax incentive for retail sales of safe storage devices and criminal penalties for those who violate safe storage rules;
  • Strengthen federal regulations for bump stocks and “ghost guns”

SENATE HEARING ON GUN VIOLENCE AND CHILDREN NEXT WEEK:

The Protecting Our Children’s Act has been sent to the Senate Judiciary chaired by Senator Dick Durban. On June 15th, Senator Durbin is scheduled to hold a hearing that includes expert testimony on the impact of that gun violence has on children.

There is a bi-partisan group of Senators discussing ways to find “common ground” on gun violence reform in the Senate.

Encourage Senators Peters and Stabenow to join this bi-partisan group.

Getting gun violence reform adopted in the Senate with be an uphill battle!

There are Republicans, like Rep. Jim Jordan, who claim that gun violence reform tramples on “law-abiding Americans second amendment rights”.
