Michigan’s death rates of mothers and their infants are unacceptable. The death rates for infants and their mothers is about three times greater for African American and Native Americans. The good news is that Michigan has a plan to reduce these death rates. Volunteers Needed To Help Defeat Abortion Ban Click HERE to Sign Up with Planned Parenthood of Michigan On December 23rd, Michigan Right to Life (RTL) submitted 379,418 signatures on petitions to the Michigan Secretary of State to criminalize dilation and extraction, the most safe, commonly used method of abortion in Michigan. The petition is intended by anti-choice activists to go to the Michigan legislature and avoid a certain veto by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Under Michigan law, this petition drive must get 340,047 valid signatures to go to the Michigan legislature. Call Your State Senator and Representative to Oppose Bills that Criminalize Abortion

BACKGROUND  House Bills 4320 and HB 4321 are on the agenda of the House Judiciary Committee that is scheduled to meet on May 7th. These bills are likely be adopted in this committee and sent to the full House for a vote.  These bills ban a safe, standard abortion procedure. They include criminal penalties for doctors of two years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. Senate Bills 165 and 166 ban and criminalize abortion at or after 20 weeks with the only exception being to save the life of the mother.
